PayPerPost Requires Full Disclosure

MSNBC has this article about bloggers who “work” for PayPerPost Inc. In it, the article mentions that all bloggers must disclose any posts that are sponsored by an advertiser.

Before this week, advertisers were barred by PayPerPost Inc. from telling bloggers they can’t disclose the sponsorship, but bloggers were able to decide on their own whether or not to do so. Under the new policy, bloggers must disclose that they are accepting payment, either in the write-up or in a general disclosure policy on the blogger’s Web journal.

Although I am not using PayPerPost Inc. services, I do feel that this new policy is common sense and should have been implemented since the company’s inception. Why would a blogger not want to disclose the fact that they are writing about a product or service from a company that has sponsored the post itself? It seems to me that this was a great way to deceive customers and perhaps even harmful marketing. I am glad that PayPerPost has finally decided to change their policy. This is one policy that should have been there from the start. And for all of you wondering, I am generally not in the market for writing sponsored reviews.
