Issue #1

My web hosting provider, DreamHost, had a scheduled power outage yesterday. Unfortunately, since that time, they have been experiencing issues with their servers. For example, last night I was only able to receive emails but could not send any. After a while, I could not even check for new mail. This was quickly followed by my blog being inaccessible and inconsistent up-times. I don’t blame them for the problems, but I do wish they would take greater care of their systems in events such as these. As I have only been with them for two months, I am not thrilled by their service, but I am happy so far. If the problems do not recede over the next few days, I am sure my opinion might change. I am sure they are working hard to resolve the matter and their support system, in my experience, is quite amazing. The key thing here is that they keep their customers apprised of various issues.

Issue #2

I just had a phone interview with Hamilton Sundstrand, an aerospace company based in Rockford, IL. I don’t think the interview went too well since I did not bother to do any homework on the company or even prepare for the interview. Why? This company is only offering a co-op position, which means that I would alternate between working and attending classes every semester. As a senior, I only have two more semesters left in my undergraduate career and I really do not have the motivation to prolong my graduation date. However, I do find their company interesting and if I do a co-op with them, I am sure I will end up working for them as well. As far as I am concerned, I am not too particularly interested in a co-op position, however, if they offer a great package, then I may consider doing a co-op versus an internship.

Issue #3

I came across an interesting plugin that allows people to double-click on any word and it will automatically bring up a small pop-up window with the word’s definition. I thought it was pretty nifty and handy so I decided to go ahead and implement it in my blog. I would like to hear from you what you think of this plugin.

It is called AnswerTips and is available from Answers.com. Due to the CSS file in place right now, some of the formatting on the pop-up box may be a bit weird. Please note that this plugin does not work for Opera and Safari browsers. I usually do not like to vehemently support a side; however, I strongly advocate users to either use Internet Explorer 7.0+ or Mozilla Firefox 2.0+.
