Reasons Why You and I Are Not Rich

I found this great post that talks about 10 reasons why I’m not rich. Reflecting on some of the things the author wrote, I can completely agree. Without further adieu, here’s a rundown of the 10 reasons why I’m not rich:
- You Care What Your Neighbors Think
- You Aren’t Patient
- You Have Bad Habits
- You Have No Goals
- You Haven’t Prepared
- You Try To Make A Quick Buck
- You Rely On Others to Take Care of Your Money
- You Invest In Things You Don’t Understand
- You’re Financially Afraid
- You Ignore Your Finances
I think I am guilty of reasons 1, 3, 5, and 10. I know that I suffer from image problems and I constantly have a senseless urge to always think about what others will think. In my defense, however, I am starting to become more resilient towards those feelings and I am less worried about what others think than before. I have a bad habit of buying “toys” for myself at random points for, often, poor reasons. Generally, I am a lavish spender and I am cutting back on my expenses. Just in the past few months, I have constrained myself to only budget and essential purchases. I also spend quite a bit on alcohol for social events. By no means do I drink alone or anything, but I do drink considerably when I am out at the bars or clubs with my friends. Occasionally, I fail to prepare for unforeseen expenses and it keeps me from enjoying financial freedom. At times, I do wish I had a larger savings net to help ease the burden of expenses that I had not expected. And finally, I simply enjoy ignoring my finances. I think much of that stems from the fact that I am a college student and I really do not have a strong desire to engage in my own finances yet. Again, I would like to emphasize that I am constantly aware of my finances, but I simply choose to be inactive about them. Maybe I’ll learn one day.
