Fake No More

picture-2.pngLooks like the author behind the Fake Steve Jobs blog has been outed. I’ve been keeping up with the blog for some time because of the dry humor the author uses. Believe me, since the blog started, hundreds have been trying to figure out who the real author is. Surprisingly, the blog is only 14 months old and is already one of the most popular blogs that people visit for humor. I have to admit, I thought that the real Steve Jobs was the original author behind the blog as a way to mock himself and laugh at others without incurring the wrath of his PR team.

The 14-month-old blog has intrigued and delighted Silicon Valley insiders with its arch comments on Apple, the technology industry and the music business, and turned the hunt for the identity of its anonymous author, the Fake Steve Jobs, into a virtual party game.

So who was it? Apparently the machine behind the blog was Daniel Lyons, a tech writer for Forbes.com. He was outed by Brad Stone, a journalist at New York Times.

Personally, I didn’t want the original author to be outed simply because the mystery made the blog that much more interesting. The real Steve Jobs has visited the site and has said he enjoyed some of the posts and thought they were funny. What are your thoughts on the outing of the fake Steve Jobs? I’m not sure what is in store for the blog, but the author does say this:

pple faithful, here in our darkest hour I know what you’re thinking: What’s next for FSJ? Well, I’m taking a few days off to sit in a lake and do some yoga and meditation and non-thinking. Then I’m coming back next week, badder than ever, with a new sponsor — my homeboys at Forbes.com. Turns out they’ve been reading FSJ and liking it too. Who knew?

WordPress Update

The folks over at WordPress have just released a new update, 2.2.2 & 2.0.11. Since this is a security update, there is no need to update all the files, you could get by by just updating the files that have changed.

Today we have two security-related releases available for both users of our main 2.2 branch and the legacy 2.0 branch. As these releases include only security and minor bugfixes they should not cause any plugin or theme compatibility issues, so you have no good excuse not to upgrade.

I upgraded my blog using the WordPress Automatic Update plugin. This plugin will update your blog in five simple steps, including performing all backups. It even downloads the update files from WordPress.org and installs by itself. After each step, it outlines what it did and clearly displays all errors. You simply click to continue. The only problem I had using this plugin for the newest update was the fact that it failed to reactivate all of my plugins. That is a trivial issue and far easier to fix than a broken install. Try it out and let me know how it goes for you.

Discovering My Inner Light

Some years ago, someone once told me, “You know why people hate you Nik? You try to act cool and funny but you’re not. You just need to be yourself.” Those words had a profound impact upon me and forced me to rethink how I view myself and my own life. Many people simply choose to enjoy life and have fun, but I have consistently chosen to re-examine myself and discover my inner-self. I have never been fond of religion because I believe that too many people have capitalized the term God and religion. It is my belief that God’s message to everyone is to simply explore their inner soul and live life. A few years ago, I discovered that I was destined for some hard times but with them would come invaluable lessons of life.

So here I am today, exploring my world and learning more about myself. Everyday I wake up and am always excited to learn something new about someone else, or something, or even myself. I’ve learned that educating myself is simply a passion because when you learn something new, you have the chance to integrate it into your life and make yourself a better person. I see too many people around me who are content with what they are or what they do. And my proclivities are always to improve and expand and continue to grow mentally. Some might call my pursuit of perfection an illusion, but I consider it a life goal that can only make my life better as days go by.

Thanks to another good friend of mine, I have had the chance to learn about metaphysical philosophy that caters directly to what I am interested in. Authors such as Descartes and Paulo Coelho allow me to question my life and events in the hopes to better understand myself and others. For the past few months, I have been diligently studying and trying to improve my inner-self and learn new things. I would even venture out and say that I am very intrigued by the idea of Enlightenment and am interested in learning more about it. So what are your thoughts on my mission? Why do you think I am doing this? Ask yourself questions and try to find the answers because you just might discover your inner light.
